I was going through some records for my next mixtape and ended up listening to “Better Git It In Your Soul” by Charles Mingus. Of course the music is dope, but i think the tracklist is verbally on the same level too. I mean, perfect balance of humour, wordplay and simplicity.
Dadao Trio was a rhythm and blues band from southern Finland that was active between 2003 and 2009. Progressive Blues Traveller split c-tape was their debut release and was released by Tuulanauhat in May 2004. The b-side of the tape was written by the eccentric hip hop instrumentalist named Ponytail. Only about a 100 copies of the tape were made.
With this blog release we’d like to cherish the memory of our beloved fellow-musician, the drummer of Dadao Trio, Juha Tiainen (1982-2011). Rest in peace, brother. See you on the other side.

I recently stumbled upon a Texas Instruments “Speak & Read” toy speech synthesizer. This thing is a member of Texas Instruments family of educational toys from 1980′s. It has around 250 words stored. Since the only access to all the words is through a “Read It” game, I thought i’d be better off recording all the words so they can be loaded in a sampler or dj software for further tweaking.
The device synthesizes speech using “linear predictive coding”. The sound it produces is super grainy and words often consist of distinctive percussive phonemes, perfect for drums and such. It is also quite funny to load all the words in a media player and set the playback to shuffle for some random robot poetry.
